I was bored the other night and did a search for the name "Kristen"...just picked a random name I guess! I found the website of a girl named Kristen W. who is 23! And it wasn't mine! If you're bored too, check it out! FUN TIMES! She emailed me back today...turns out she lives in Chicago. My misplaced twin identity. I might have said Chicago accidentally.

I also got to have a nice visit with my friend Adrienne from Hungary and a couple new au pairs from Slovakia. They're adorable..but difficult to understand. Did you know...they have televisions AND ice cream outside of the US? Wow, I'm amazed. I enjoyed playing the ingnorant American girl for them. heheee.

I went to my meeting last night and it went GREAT! There are so so many wonderful people that are doing it as well..I'm pretty pumped! Also, I got lost in Harlem before I found it...and didn't even panic! I'm getting too used to being lost I think. NO WORRIES!! Eeks.

ERRRRRR...and to top it off, I showed up in jeans and it was the celebration of the sukkat last night. It is one of the Jewish people's big holidays. It's like Kari showing up for yoga at our church on Christmas. Kari!

And suddenly make it all seem worth-while?
Well it's you girl and you should know it,
With each glance and every little movement,

Is this it??

We were in the city all day yesterday and then headed back to Hoboken. For your pleasure, we have compiled a list of miracles that were bestowed upon us...and some very random things that happened.

Miracles

1. Found the subway where it was supposed to be on the map!

2. The door opened on the right side and we were able to get off without being mobbed.

3. We discovered the cutest restaurant EVER in Battery Park.

4. Jackie got the leaf out.

5. Met boys who just happened to have a limo.

6. Made it home in the limo ALIVE!

7. Didn't puke.

8. Made it walking through Harlem.

9. Didn't get hit by a bike in Central Park.

10.Found the hill where Big Daddy was filmed...and just for kicks, reenacted stick scene.

Randomness

1. I had the perfect moment. Overlooking Stat-O-Lib, drinking margarita, cute bartenders, perfect weather, no bugs, Jackie here.

2. Then it rained.

3. If you're black and like J-Lo, they (being the trees and tar path) apparently won't let you in to Central Park. Don't ask.

4. In NY you can take pictures with just your fingers. Well, a man in the garden told us.

5. Certs don't work if you've just puked and then kiss someone...I've heard.

6. Jackie AND Kari think I'm Mary Tyler Moore...NOT Poppins. WHAT???? She's from MN though.

7. We almost witnessed a battle on the high sea. Pirate ships...but no cannons.

8. Got the day off onto the right foot with manicures and pedicures!!

Hey Bartender Man!

"What in the WORLD is happening right now? The US is supposed to be a safe place to be...Do you think that the Bible means Palestinians and Afghanis when it says that the yellow race will win and that will be the end of the world? WWIII is way too close for my comfort level.WHOEVER READS THIS...please,please,please, quit procreating! Don't bring more innocent beings into this world of war!"

God Bless America

I woke up this morning to the radio talking about 9/11. It's been a very rough morning for me...as well as thousands of people. I decided to come home after dropping Jacob off. I couldn't stay at the Jewish Center. For some reason, I have become overly paranoid that something horrible is going to happen and I'm going to be there. It just seems that last year, when this happened, I felt so far removed. I felt as though no harm would come to me or anyone I knew because the midwest is a safe haven. Being here for the anniversary, and having talked about it so much and having my whole schedule rearranged because of it (Brooke is staying several nights at Ground Zero) makes it real. It's REAL. Real people died. The memorials are absolutely breathtaking and the families are just like mine. I walked by a NY firestation last weekend where there were clowns and kids playing with the same men and women firefighters that risked their entire lives at the World Trade Center! What an awesome event to try to comprehend. I'm trying...and today is very difficult.

For those of you who are nerds like me and need to know the answer to my (very intriguing) question about "taxation without representation, here it is!! Yes, I'm very bored.

In 2001, by a vote of 2-1, a Federal appeals court rejects a case brought by residents of the District of Columbia to gain full voting representation in Congress. The U.S. Supreme Court declines to hear the case on appeal.

Therefore, the city of Washington, D.C. adopts the new license plate motto "TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION" to go on all newly printed plates.

Newly elected President George W. Bush demonstrates his opposition to D.C. voting rights by replacing the "TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION" plates on the presidential limousine with blank District plates. The "TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION" plates had been placed on the presidential limo by former President Clinton, who in his last weeks in office received national attention for his support for full enfranchisement for the District.

Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) and Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-Ct.) introduce the "No Taxation Without Representation Act" in both houses of Congress, which would exempt District residents from federal income taxes until given full voting representation.

I made it back safely from D.C. It was an excellently glorious trip.

1. We stayed at Econo Lodge. They like to put bonus back hairs on their sheets to make you feel at home.
2. I thought NJ roads were screwed up. They're NOTHING in comparison to the "Taxation without Representation" State. Wait...is it a state?? And what does that mean??
3. Hairspray is only "a quarta" on Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue. If you don't wanna buy any...well, can you spare some loose change anyway?
4. MLK Jr. Ave=Newark
5. Newark is scary.
6. Hi Kari.
7. We saw the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. They're absolutely breathtaking...with or without obnoxious background music.
8. The Devil works at a McDonalds in downtown D.C.
9. If you're waiting for a light to turn green anyway, take that time to make sure the cars in front of you are not parked.
10.Made friends with a security guard...EXCUSE ME...Secret Service Agent who works at the White House. He helped us learn. We found out that the secret service cannot read Cosmo or paint their nails on duty. We also found out that if someone were to run through the gate when they opened it up and say...run for it...well, they would for sure be arrested--NO MATTER HOW CUTE THEY ARE. Liberty and Justice...sure.
11.We got to see the president's helicopter fly in and drop him off and leave. VERY kewl.
