Motivating Cold!
For those of you lucky enough to live in other parts of the country, we Minnesotans are being traumatized as we speak by -10 degree and dropping temperatures. Many people are cozying up to their fireplaces and putting on as many layers as possible.

However, in our family, cold weather is motivation to move!
Today Maya had her first day of actual WALKING! Not just 5 or 6 steps to an object but actual walking with a mission across a room! OVER AND OVER AND OVER!! Go Maya Baby!!

Me? I went swimming at the pool tonight with Kari. I even ran out to start the car in my bathing suit and towel! I can do anything with a hot tub and sauna nearby! She-Ra I am! Midwestern SHE-RA!!!

Take a Deep Breath!

It all started with a runny nose. Last Thursday when I picked Maya up from daycare she had a little trickle. By Saturday she had a cough. By Monday we got a call from our daycare provider that she was hysterically crying and that we should come pick her up. Jason went to get her. By the time I got home that night she looked like death. Her eyes were halfway closed and she was just laying on the floor.

Jason and I took her to Urgent Care where she was diagnosed with RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). RSV? WHAT? They gave her a breathing treatment and sent us home. That night she could hardly breathe and had a fever of 103.8F. We continued the nebulizer treatments through the night and the next morning. It was the scariest thing we have gone through with her yet...

Tuesday I took her to the doctor to see if she was improving and they sent us to Children's Hospital right away, with the expectation of having her admitted for at least one night. We spent about 6 hours in the ER, giving her breathing treatments, steroids, and monitoring her breathing and oxygen absorbtion. They did a chest x-ray which showed pneumonia, and they found that she had a left ear infection. HOLY CRAP! How much more can one poor baby take (dare I ask)?
That night they sent us home with some good antibiotics and more steroids to keep her airways open. Ugh.

It was very touch-and-go for another 24 hours and then BANG--we had our baby back. She's back to her sweet, energetic self now (with a minor rattle and wheeze left over) and she's toddling everywhere once again.

Thank goodness the drama is OVER (we hope)!!! Also, thank you to everyone for your prayers and phone calls. They worked!

Guess what daycare had an outbreak of NOW! HOOF & MOUTH DISEASE!!!!!!

Today Jason, Maya, and I reached a huge milestone as a family. Maya went for an entire 24 hour period with NO BOTTLES! We decided to just go cold turkey and she didn't even skip a beat. I think I was holding on to them tighter than she was. It's just so strange to be a parent with no bottles! Tonight I'm packing all of them (but one...you know...just in case!) away with all of the adorable teeny outfits she has already outgrown in the past year. I never thought only one year into parenthood I'd already be nostalgic. Sheesh! What's 10 or 20 years going to bring?
