Can one die from being too tired? Maya hasn't slept right in about five months, but recently it's gotten way worse. She wakes up about six times each night and wants to be up for the day. It's awful. At first we just gave in and started sleeping with her in her bed in her room. But she tosses and turns so much that neither she nor we get any sleep at all. By default, when she transitioned out of her crib to a big girl bed we just moved the full size from the guest room to hers. However, the newest thought was that maybe that's just plain too big for her. So yesterday we got a twin set. We got her some super cute sheets and comforters, side rails, etc. Put a bright nightlight in there too. Then we put her to bed and held our breath(s). She slept great from 9-11pm...then she woke up for water. Let me walk out of the room though and went back to sleep! Score! Then at 2am she woke up..but in a worse frame of mind. Felt she NEEDED to get up. For good. I tried the Nanny 911 technique and put her back to bed 60 times in an hour. At that point she and I were both so upset that I just closed the door. She cried for about 10 minutes...then QUIET. Of course she fell asleep on the floor. Then at 6:20am I transferred her to bed and she just now woke up (7:20am)! Do you realize that's the first night in months Jason and I have both actually slept in OUR big kid bed!? LOL. Seriously. Anyone have any great thoughts or advice?

As soon as we got to church yesterday we brought Maya to the nursery..and she was livid with us! She screamed until they buzzed us to come back and get her. So we did, knowing it would be a disaster having her in the quiet church. However, she proved us soo wrong. She was wonderful.
She sat and ate crackers, drank juice, clapped when everyone else clapped, and watched everyone as they sang. At one point the pastor asks everyone to close their eyes for prayer…he asks that anyone who wants to ask God into their heart today to raise their hand. With a huge smile, Maya raises her hand and says “Maya raise hand”!! Cutest thing I’ve ever witnessed. She is the biggest gift God could have given us.

Maya had her first sleepover this weekend! To make things even better, it was an OLDER friend...one she could obsess over and copy her every move. What a sweet Gia :-) They played dress up, had a "pajama party" with popcorn and watched Angelina Ballerina, played in a bath with the most bubbles ever, and mostly ran in circles for 24 full hours! I'm exhausted..and Maya's got energy to spare! LOL.

Using my child like one might use a magic 8 ball, as we sat down to dinner I asked her the pending question.
Me: Hey, Maya...is Obama going to win? Maya: No. Me: What? Is McCain going to be president? Maya: NO! Me: Well who's going to be president then? Maya: The People!! Me: Wow! That's deep! The people are going to be president? Maya: MY PEOPLE!
The people really DID win! President Obama!!! WOOOHOOOO!!!!

Baby activist This was taken at the VP Debate watch party but I just now uploaded it to my computer. We stuck bumper stickers to her front and back. Does that make me a bad parent or just an Obama Mama???

Wow...it's been a while since I posted last! This month has just been speeding by! Jason, Maya, and I were all pretty sick for a couple weeks. And just as we thought things were getting back to normal Maya got a runny nose and cough yesterday. Ugh. So frustrating! She went to my mom and dad's for a whole FIVE days last week! While she was away, Jason and I celebrated our THREE YEAR anniversary (which is actually tomorrow). We had dinner at Fogo de Chao downtown and stayed at the Marriott. Very memorable! In the end, though, we missed our baby sooo much and were glad to get to go pick her up on Sunday. She had a blast and grandma and grandpa didn't want to give her back at the end. I think that's a good sign :-)

On Friday night Maya had a runny nose. By Saturday she had a fever and cough. We took her to Urgent Care when she started looking lethargic. By that evening she could barely keep her eyes open. On Sunday it appeared the antibiotic and steroids had kicked in and she was on the upswing. She went to daycare on Monday and had a four hour nap! When she got home, she barely ate anything and then shortly after spewed...everywhere! That was followed by four more occurrences and half hour periods of sleep. She was starting to really scare me. I went to lay down with her and after we both slept about an hour I woke up to a RADIATING baby. I could barely touch her she was so hot. She had 104.4 temp! At midnight we rushed her to the ER and at 3am they admitted her for dehydration and because her bloodwork was off. We spent all day yesterday in the hospital room, listening to sweet baby say "Bye, bye. Maya bye bye!". She hated it! We thought she would be discharged last night after she finally started drinking again and her fever was down to normal. But NO! She's still there! Jason slept there with her last night and I had to come home and shower. Because they think she will be able to come home this morning I'm going to work. UGH. I hate being a contractor on days like this!
UPDATE: Maya was discharged this afternoon and is doing remarkably well!! Yay for awesome doctors and IV's.
